The homeowners reached out to our team in search of a complete exterior overhaul, from their siding, to their windows, and much more! Our team was happy to take on the challenge, and we went out to West Roxbury to meet with the homeowners and discuss their goals for this project!

The homeowners were looking for a way to breathe new life into their home’s exterior, and they had a number of areas that needed be addressed, from the siding, to the deck. We sat down to discuss all of our available remodeling options, and after a bit of deliberation, we found the perfect options for every aspect of the remodel!

For this particular home, we needed to replace the siding, windows, entry door, and deck, but our team was up to the task! Keep reading below to learn a bit more about the materials we used!

CertainTeed Monogram & Cedar Impressions

First off, for this particular remodel, our team used two different styles of siding, both manufactured by CertainTeed. For the bulk of the replacement, we installed CertainTeed’s Monogram vinyl siding, which is known for its durability and beauty and is quite popular among the homeowners we work with. However, these homeowners were looking for a way to add a touch of additional curb appeal to the home, and decided to install accents of CertainTeed’s Cedar Impressions siding shingles. Molded from real cedar shingles and built from a durable polymer, these shingles provide the curb appeal of traditional cedar siding, but offer far more longevity and durability. With the two options paired together, this home will not only be well-protected, but also look beautiful!

Harvey Replacement Windows

Next up, our team installed a number of new Harvey Classic double-hung windows in the home. Based out of Waltham, MA, Harvey is a local company that so many Massachusett’s homeowners trust to keep their home’s protected!

With plenty of style options to choose from, Harvey windows are perfect for any home. While these homeowners installed double-hung windows, Harvey manufactures a wide array of styles, including the classics like casements, as well as niche options like bay windows. Furthermore, with so many colorways and hardware options to choose from, you can customize the windows to your liking! If you’re interested in learning more, reach out today!

Therma-Tru Entry Door

In addition to the new windows and siding, we also installed a beautiful new Therma-Tru entry door on this home. The homeowners were looking for an accent piece that would help the home’s exterior pop, and this beautiful, bright red Therma-Tru door surely did the trick!

Functioning as a focal point of the home’s exterior, the red door offers a beautiful contrast to the white decking and window trim, as well as the Charcoal Gray siding! If you’re interested in learning more about our entry door installations, reach out today to get started!

Azek Decking & Titan Railings

Lastly, we constructed a new entryway and deck for the home using a combination of Azek Decking boards & Titan railings. Spring Home Maintenance Tips

Spring is in full bloom in Massachusetts. The leaves & flowers are coming out, the birds are
chirping, and the sun is sticking around longer every day! While New England is beautiful in the
springtime, it is also an important time for homeowners to take a look around their home’s
exterior. Massachusetts winters bring harsh weather conditions, including high winds, and bitter
frosts, which can deteriorate even the strongest homes over time. This makes it essential to
examine your home’s exterior each spring in order to assess the property for damage and make
any necessary repairs & replacements! If you’re interested in learning more about the home
maintenance you should be doing, keep reading below for more information!

Check Your Gutters

One of the most important bits of spring maintenance that you can do for your home is cleaning
your gutter system. For many homeowners, gutters are simply an afterthought, when in fact they
are a very important part of your home’s protection. Serving to safely route water away from
your home, having a clogged gutter system can cause considerable damage, as water pours
over the sides of the system, causing moisture damage to edge of your roof deck & starter
shingles, your fascia & soffit boards, and even your home’s foundation.

Be sure to clean your gutters at least once a year in the spring in order to ensure the system is
working properly!

Examine Your Shingles

Another piece of your roofing system that should be examined is your shingles. Your home’s
roof is exposed to all sorts of weather conditions, which eventually cause the shingles to
deteriorate. When the weather thaws, you should check on your roof’s integrity to ensure your
home won’t develop any leaks. Have a roofing professional examine the shingles for any
damage, as well as the flashing around your chimney & vents to ensure the roof isn’t leaking.

Checks Windows & Doors

Finally, you should be sure to examine your home’s windows & doors to ensure that they
haven’t absorbed any moisture. Due to the snow that lies at your door’s threshold, and window
sills, they are both exposed to standing water, particularly during the last month or two of winter
as everything thaws out. This can cause rot damage around the frames of both units, making it
essential to examine them both come spring. You can use a blunt, but pointy, object, such as a
screwdriver, to poke around the sills & thresholds for any sections of rotted wood. If you find
any, be sure to replace them in order to protect your home from additional water damage.

Our team at Three Sons Window & Door recently replaced the siding and entry doors on this Peabody, MA home! The homeowners reached out to us to replace their home’s old siding that was beginning to look outdated, and they wanted to install a new entry door as well to complement their new siding and keep their home protected from potential intruders. If you’re interested in learning more about the materials we used to transform the exterior of this home, keep reading below for more information!

CertainTeed Cedar Impressions & Monogram Siding

For this siding replacement, our homeowners had a particular design in mind for their home’s exterior. They wanted to use a combination of CertainTeed’s Cedar Impression shingles, as well as Monogram vinyl siding boards, to highlight the entrance of their home. Around the front door, our homeowners decided that they wanted to install Cedar Impressions siding shingles to boost their home’s curb appeal and draw attention to the front of their home. They chose a beautiful shade of Pacific blue, which looks fantastic on the whole home! On the rest of the home, they installed Monogram vinyl siding in the same shade of Pacific blue to keep the exterior of the home cohesive.

Homeowners and contractors alike love Monogram & Cedar Impressions for similar reasons! Both siding options are constructed of highly durable polymers that will keep your home protected from the elements and pests. In addition to the protection & durability that they offer, both siding materials are molded from real cedar board and shingles, making both materials resemble painted cedar siding, which will boost your home’s curb appeal further! If you’re looking for a siding material that will not only keep your home protected but also boost it’s resale value, Cedar Impressions & Monogram are both fantastic options!

Therma-Tru Smooth Star Entry Door

In addition to their new siding, these homeowners were in search of an entry door for the front of their home that could provide protection from the elements, pests and intruders, as well as improved curb appeal in conjunction with their new siding. They chose a beautiful shade of onyx that stands out from their home’s blue siding.

In addition to the curb appeal that Therma-Tru entry doors provide, they are also highly durable and they insulate quite well, boosting your home’s energy efficiency. In addition to the core that provides your home with insulation that’s four times better than wood, Smooth Star entry doors are also weather-resistant, and their fiberglass composition means they won’t rot like wood or rust like steel!

Colorful Fall Leaves

Fall Home Maintenance

Fall has arrived in New England, and with it comes a whole new set of home maintenance concerns and needs. Preparing your home for the winter is essential in Massachusetts, where our falls are rife with falling leaves and the winters with frost & snow. If you need to learn a bit more about how to get your home prepared for the winter season, take a look at our blog for more information!

Check Your Windows & Doors For Drafts

Our team at Three Sons recommends that the first thing you do to get your home ready for the winter is to examine all your windows and doors for drafts. A drafty window or door can often be easy to miss unless you are checking for it, but it can quickly run up your energy bills if left unaddressed. You can quickly check for drafts in your windows or doors by taking a look at the frames of both and examining them for any gaps. Another quick test you can do is holding a lit candle or incense by the frames of both and checking to see if the flame is moved by the air. If the flame is being blown around, it is obvious that there is a significant draft. Seal up any drafts by using weatherstripping, or reaching out to our team at Three Sons to assist you with installing new replacement doors and windows on your home.

Check Your Roof (& Gutters) For Debris

Another piece of your home’s exterior that you should examine for damage each fall is your roof, and gutter system. Check your roof for any damaged shingles. Damaged shingles run the gambit, from shingles that are slightly warped around the edges, to shingles that have broken clean in half or fallen from your roof. If you find that your home’s roof is damaged in any way, have it repaired before the winter in order to protect your home from potentially expensive repairs.

Another area that you should examine is your gutters. Your home’s gutters should be cleaned twice a year, once during the fall and once during the spring, in order to ensure they are working properly. If neglected, clogged gutters can easily lead to ice dams, which can, in turn, damage your roof by causing extensive water damage. Be sure that you clean your gutters before the debris freezes in order to protect your home from ice dams.
